G is for Grinchmas

Today we ready "How th Grinch Stole Christmas" By Dr. Seuss and "Bear Stays Up for Christmas" By Karma Wilson.

We had a lot of fun Grinch themed activities where we made Grinch Handprints, Grinch Slime, Melt the Grinch's Heart-Sensory Play, To Make The Grinch Grin I Would... and we played Grinch Tag

We also had a Prewriting activity and practiced Name Writing our Names! 

Melt the Grinch's Heart-Sensory Play was fun green ice cubes with mini hearts the kids used scoopers to scoop salt onto the ice to watch it melt. It was so much fun that we revisited it later for free play and played with the ice water and ice cubes in a bowl. The kids just loved stirring it around.

Lunch was in theme with The Grinch today. We had A Green Spinach Grinch Roll, with Grinch Fruit Skewers, Snap Peas, and Ginger Heart Shaped Cookies.

To Make The Grinch Grin I Would...

We made Grinch Slime! The kids loved Making it and then Playing with it. Cutting our Heart Shapes was a lot of fun.

G is for Gingerbread Man

We had an amazing day today. G is our letter of the week and today we read "The Gingerbread Man Loose at School" By Laura Murray and "The Gingerbread Man" By Jim Aylesworth. Our color is Green, Number is 4, and Heart is the Shape of the week. We played Roll a Gingerbread Man, Had a Gingerbread Science Experiment, Gingerbread Charting, Gingerbread Manhunt, and Decorated Gingerbread Houses. We had lots of free play and played Ring Around the Rosies.

Roll-A-Gingerbread-Man this was another cool idea by Mrs. Kelsey, the kids rolled a large dice and depending on what side it landed they got to pick the decorations for the Gingerbread man craft project. 

Gingerbread Cookie Science Experiment. To observe and see which of these liquids dissolves the cookie and which of these liquids keeps it's shape. We also used our sense of smell to smell each liquid. :)

Gingerbread Cookie Charting- What did you eat first?

The Gingerbread Manhunt! We put our Gingerbread Man in the oven to bake and when we checked on them they were GONE! They left a note: Run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man! But they left some clues for us to find them...

We made Gingerbread Houses for our Gingerbread Man so they won't run away again.

The Gingerbread Houses turned out beautiful and the Gingerbread Man never ran away again :) 

Keeping with the weeks theme, for lunch we had green spinach tortilla wraps with egg whites, and chicken breakfast sausage and cheese, a banana hazelnut spread sushi roll, and 4 grapes. 

Farm Field Trip

I didn't even know places like this exist anymore! So thankful for our Teach Mrs. Kelsey to always fun us amazing activities. We have been learning about the farm this month and Amy's Farm was the perfect Field Trip place. If you haven't been, definitely check this place out. http://www.amysfarm.com/

We got to experience Real Farm Life for the Day! We got the chance to participate in all sorts of fun hands-on farm activities:

Garden Walk, harvest a veggie leaf or herb in our organic garden

Learn about cows and try your hand at milking a cow

Pet goats and sheep in our petting zoo.

Feed pigs vegetables picked from our garden.

Watch chickens, roosters, turkeys, geese, and ducks interact.

Pet and Brush horses

Enjoying the sights, sounds, smells, and touch of the farm is a complete sensory experience!

Week 8 Part 1

Pilgrims and Pie, Oh My! Letter of the week is Pp, Number 6, Shape Circle, and Color Blue. Today we Red "Pete the Cat: The First Thanksgiving" By James Dean and "One Little, Two Little, Three Little Pilgrims" By B. G. Henessey.

We made Pete the Pilgrim Tissue Plates, Pilgrim Hats, Dissolving Pumpkin Science Experiment, Thanksgiving Pilgrim Patterns, and Pumpkins in a Row. We also had a nice Nature walk to the Park.

 

Fall Sensory Bins with Indian Corn, Beans, and Pumpkins

We made these really cool Foam Pilgrim's Hats. What's different about this activity from all the rest we've done so far is they get a packet and then have to listen and follow instructions one step at a time. 

Why Yes, that is my son in his Iron Man Costume, turns out he wanted to wear it everyday to School ... Sure why not... Be free to express yourself child!

For Lunch the kids made Pumpkin Bread with Walnuts, and I made Silly Owls on their tray from Apples, grape and Peanut Butter and Jelly Sushi Rolls with a side of Mango Chips.

Week 7 Part 2

It's Halloween Costume Day!!! The kids loved getting to wear their Costumes to School. Today we read "The Hallo-Weiner" By Dave Pilker and "The Spooky Old Tree" By Stab and Jan Berenstain. We had some fun with Spiders this morning. Spider Threading and Sorting, Sink or Float Dissolving Pumpkins, made Ghost Slime, Invitation to Make: Monster Faces, and Toilet Paper Spider Stamps, and the funnest of all activities was of course The Costume Freeze Dance. We also had Mummy Wrap Relays Outside.

Costume Day and Free Play this is a train contraption the kids made together. 

Costume Day at School was a hit. My boys loved wearing their Iron Man and Captain America Costumes.

Week 7 Part 1

Our Theme this week is Monsters, Mummies, and Spiders. Letter of the week is Mm, Number is 8, Shape is Oval, and Color is Purple.

We read the book "Room on the Broom" By Julia Donaldson and "The Spooky Wheels on the Bus" By J. Elizabeth Mills.

We sang If You're a Monster and You Know It. We had some fun Halloween Sensory Bins, We made Frankenstein Feet and Hand Prints, Yarn Wrapped Mummies, Spider Names, Witches Brew Science Experiment, and Halloween Books. We also went on a Scavenger Hunt for Spiders and Bugs. And for cooking today they made Muffins.

Week 6 Part 2

Today we continued our Halloween theme with the book "The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat" By Lucille Colandro and "AlphaOops! His for Halloween" By Alethea Kontis.

We learned all about Bats, did you know bats see with their noses? It's their sense of smell that allows them to hunt at night. So we made smelly bats and had the kids make guesses of what each bat smells like. It was fun using our own sense of smell all the kids had some fun ideas of what each smell reminded them of. We also made H is for Halloween! Yarn Bats, Felt Pumpkin face Emotions, Bat Hand Prints, and Played Pumpkin Seed Counting and Pumpkin Tic Tac Toe.

Yarn Bats was a great activity. We gave the kids a long string of yarn for them to cut up into small pieces. Then they glued them onto a bat.

Week 6 Part 1

This week we are talking about Halloween and H is our letter of the week, 5 is our Number of the week, Rectangle is the shape of the week, and black is the color of the week. We read "Five Little Pumpkins" By Dan Yaccarino and "The Spooky Wheels on the Bus" By J. Elizabeth Mills.

We made Pumpkin Spiced Play Dough, Five Little Pumpkins Counting and Sorting Sensory Bins, Treading Sensory Bins, Pumpkin Patch Small World Play, and Hand Print H's. We went on a Scavenger Hunt for Fall Leaves and made Nature Bracelets.

Using Tongs and Clothes Pins we had the kids Count 5 Little Pumpkins into each mini bin.

Treading Sensory Bin was a challenge but they did great threading the pipe cleaners through the straws.

Pumpkin Patch Small World Play

Lunch we had homemade Farm Shaped Mac and Cheese Bites, with a Mini Pumpkin Shaped Sandwich, Apple Sauce and a Homemade Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie.

Teddy Bear Picnic

Today we had a really fun day! Based from the book "We're Going On A Bear Hunt" By Michael Rosen. We went on a bear hunt using the binoculars we made and a map we found bear claw prints on our hunt. They lead us to a teddy bear picnic area where we had a delicious picnic.

Week 4 Part 1

This week our theme is Bears and Hibernation, this could possible be my favorite week so far. Our Letter of the Week is D, Number of the week is Number 3, Shape of the week is Triangle and Color of the week is Green.

Today we read the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" By Eric Carle and "Bear Has a Story To Tell" By Phillip Stead We had a Brown Bear, Brown Bear Activity Center and made Retelling Necklaces.

We made a Gummy Bear Science Experiment, Who do you See?, Stamp Painted Green Dinosaurs, Dinosaur Tracks, and Green Bear Tracks.

For our group activity we made green play dough and went on a Nature Hunt Exploring and Finding all things Green found in Nature.

Who do you see? Color and cut activity that we made into necklaces for the kids to wear.
